Frequently asked questions
The vibration does not work
iOS: Check that vibration is turned on in Settings > Sounds & Haptics, including the setting for silent mode.
Android: Check that vibration is on in Settings > Sound & vibration. Removing the app from battery optimization also makes it more reliable (the app's settings screen can take you there).
I changed an event's time, but the alert came at the old time
This was improved in v5.0. The app rebuilds its alerts from your latest events when you open it and periodically in the background.
iOS: For the most reliable results, turn on Don't Be Late! in Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Opening the app once after changing an event updates the alerts right away (because of how iOS works, if the app has not run for a long time, a notification may still arrive at the old time; opening that notification does not start the app's strong vibration). Since v5.2, on days with events, a morning notification asks you to check today's schedule. Opening it rebuilds the alerts from your latest events.
I don't receive notifications
iOS: Check that notifications are allowed in Settings > Notifications > Don't Be Late!. We recommend turning on Banners, Sounds and Badges. Notifications may not arrive while a Focus (such as Do Not Disturb) is on.
Android: The app's settings screen has items for "exact alarms" and "battery optimization". Please check the following:
- "Alarms & reminders" is allowed (Settings > Apps > Don't Be Late! > Alarms & reminders, Android 12 and later). Without it, alerts may arrive later than the event time.
- The app is excluded from battery optimization. On devices with the manufacturer's own power saving (auto-closing or sleeping apps), exclude the app there as well.
- On Android 13 and later, notifications are allowed.
If you have many events, the app schedules up to 60 alarms covering the next 7 days, nearest first. Later ones are added when you open the app or during periodic updates.
I chose "Don't Allow" for calendar or notification access
Because of how the OS works, the permission prompt may not appear again. Please allow access in the device settings. The app's settings screen can also take you there.
- iOS: In Settings > Don't Be Late!, set Calendars to "Full Access" and turn on Notifications (you can also change this in Settings > Privacy & Security > Calendars).
- Android: In Settings > Apps > Don't Be Late! > Permissions, allow Calendar and Notifications.
Without calendar access the app cannot read your events, so no alarms will go off. After you allow access, open the app and it will load your events and schedule the alarms again.
My calendar events are not shown
iOS: Check that Don't Be Late! has full access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Calendars.
Android: Check that Settings > Apps > Don't Be Late! > Permissions > Calendar is allowed. The app's settings screen can also take you there.
If access is allowed, check that the calendars you want are selected on the app's calendar screen (iOS: the Calendar tab; Android: the calendar icon at the top right of the home screen) (all are off at first). All-day events are not included. The list covers the next 7 days, starting today (the same range the alarms are scheduled for).
How do I stop the vibration?
Open the app and tap the "Tap to stop" button at the top of the screen. You can also stop it with the "Stop Vibration" action on the notification. On Android, swiping away the notification while it vibrates also stops it (v5.2.1 and later).
I want to turn off or change the time of the morning "Check today's events" notification (iOS)
You can turn it off or change the time under "Morning Reminder" in the app's settings (on, 7:00 by default). It is not sent on days without events.
I want to turn off alerts for a specific event
On the home screen, tap the bell icon on the right of an event to mute it. The bell icon at the top mutes or unmutes all events at once.
I want to change ad personalization
In the app's settings, "Ad settings" lets you allow or not allow personalized ads. If you don't allow them, ads are still shown, but they are not personalized. Changes take effect right away.
- iOS: After the initial setup, the OS tracking permission dialog (App Tracking Transparency) asks you, and your answer becomes the initial setting. You can change "Ad settings" after answering the dialog. To control use of the advertising identifier (IDFA), go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Android: After the initial setup, the app asks you in its "About ads" screen. You can delete or reset the advertising ID in the device's Settings under "Ads".

About the Premium plan (no ads) and restoring purchases
The iOS app (6.0 and later) offers a monthly Premium plan that removes ads and adds Google Calendar integration. You can buy it from Premium in the Settings tab, or from Google Calendar in the Calendar tab. The price is shown on the purchase screen. The Android app does not offer it at this time.
- After changing devices or reinstalling, use "Restore Purchase" on the purchase screen to restore purchases made with the same Apple ID or Google account.
- To cancel, use the store you purchased from (iPhone: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions; Android: Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Refunds follow each store's policy. We cannot issue refunds directly.
It says my Google Calendar or Outlook connection has expired (iOS)
Google Calendar connection is a benefit of the Premium plan on iOS (Outlook connection is in preparation). If your sign-in expires because you changed your password, revoked access on the account side or did not use it for a long time, the home screen shows that the connection has expired. Tap the account in the Calendar tab and sign in again. Until you reconnect, the app keeps the alarms for the events it last loaded from that connection.
To stop using a connection, choose "Disconnect" in the Calendar tab. If the same account is also added to the iPhone's Calendar, the app uses the iPhone's events so the same event does not go off twice. The Android version reads calendars synced to the device (including Google accounts) directly, so there is nothing to connect.
I want to change the app's language
The app supports 74 languages and follows your device's language setting. On iOS you can also change the language for this app only in Settings > Don't Be Late! > Language. Translations other than Japanese and English are based on machine translation, so please let us know if anything reads unnaturally.
